Sports Therapy in Kenilworth

What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapists are experts at musculo-skeletal pain and injury. Their training involves not just understanding the muscular system, but also how to evaluate, treat, and strengthen this system. This means that when you see a Sports Therapist, they really know how the body works and how to correct your pain.

Sports Therapists work very well with Physiotherapists, let us say for instance that you had a hip replacement. Physiotherapy is a great place to start after surgery, they understand and work alongside surgeons in hospitals, and are best placed to handle the initial post operative stages of rehabilitation.

But once this is done, and this individual wants to return to work or sports, the sports therapist is the ideal person to take their rehabilitation to the next, more specialised level.

Sports therapists are able to evaluate any body pain; be it Back Pain, Headaches, Shoulder Pain, or Osteoarthritis. The hands-on nature of Sports Therapists mean they treat using the ideal blend of Sports Massage, Physiotherapy style assessments and Personal Trainer exercises, which is why they achieve such great results.

What makes us different?

Both Ian and Gina are Sports Therapists, but as well as having qualifications in Sports Therapy, they have degrees in Sports Science, which means they look at things in a different way.

Sports Scientists are trained in Biomechanics, which is the knowledge of how muscles work together to create movement within the body.

This means when we look at your shoulder pain, we are also looking at how the muscles are interplaying, which muscles are strong, weak or over / under firing and the affect that is then having elsewhere in the body.

If the shoulder muscles are weak, for example, they can create an overwork of your neck muscles, leading to Headaches. Weak shoulders can also cause your arm to over work, leading to Carpal Tunnel like symptoms.

So it is important to look at muscle interactions to get to the root cause of your issues.

Do you just work with sports injuries?

Sports Therapists are excellent at treating sports injuries due to their deep understanding of how the muscular system works. But that in depth knowledge can be put to use to treat any muscle or joint issue, not just Sports Injuries.

Let us say you are a runner who has weak ankles and keeps spraining them.   We can evaluate and treat the ankle issue,  but that pain came from somewhere.

So, here at Reinge Clinic, with our Sports Science background, we can assess your running gait to see what is happening when you run, and alter your gait to you don't keep spraining your ankle.

Now, say the same client goes on to develop osteoarthritis in the knee, (which often has it's roots in knee and foot issues) a Sports Therapist could treat the osteoarthritis as well, but then adapt the rehab exercises to ensure they are able to return to running as soon as possible.

I have used the Reinge Clinic for several years and they have enabled me to continue Canoeing and Kayaking at a high level and enjoy my active lifestyle generally. Their approach is very thorough and both Ian and Gina are very knowledgeable. I strongly recommend that you contact them to help deal with or recover from any physical injury.

Gina and Ian are a fantastic team. They've both been involved in my rehab from injury and generally keeping me going. They've got a high level of knowledge and a no nonsense but caring approach. I recommend them to my clients and friends. You're in great hands.

Brian Turner

We race sidecar Motocross, which is possibly one of the most demanding sports on the planet. After a large crash where we both sustained injuries we visited the Reinge Clinic. I was treated by Gina and my passenger by Ian. Both are fantastically knowledgable , they clearly explained what we had broken and how they were going to fix it. We have been able to continue racing through both the treatment sessions but the strengthening programmes they designed to ensure injuries do not reoccur.
