Sports Therapy

Offered in both our Kenilworth and Portishead Clinics, Sports Therapists specialise in muscular-skeletal pain and injury in healthy individuals.
A holistic approach to injury assessment, combined with hands on treatment and exercise rehabilitation are its trademark.
Sports injury, back pain and any muscular pain and injury problems would benefit from sports therapy treatment.

What is Sports Therapy?
Sports Therapists are experts at musculo-skeletal pain and injury. Their training involves not just understanding the muscular system, but also how to evaluate, treat, and strengthen this system. This means that when you see a Sports Therapist, they really know how the body works and how to correct your pain.
Sports Therapists work very well with Physiotherapists, let us say for instance that you had a hip replacement. Physiotherapy is a great place to start after surgery, they understand and work alongside surgeons in hospitals, and are best placed to handle the initial post operative stages of rehabilitation.

But once this is done, and this individual wants to return to work or sports, the sports therapist is the ideal person to take their rehabilitation to the next, more specialised level.
Sports therapists are able to evaluate any body pain; be it Back Pain, Headaches, Shoulder Pain, or Osteoarthritis. The hands-on nature of Sports Therapists mean they treat using the ideal blend of Sports Massage, Physiotherapy style assessments and Personal Trainer exercises, which is why they achieve such great results.
What makes us different?
There are plenty of Sports Therapist in both the Kenilworth and Portishead areas, so why choose us?
Both Ian and Gina are sports therapists, but also hold degrees in sports science, meaning that they see things differently. Sports scientists are trained in biomechanics, which is knowing how muscles work together to produce movements in the body.
This means when we are looking at your shoulder pain, we are also looking at how muscles are working together, what muscles are stronger, weaker, or firing to much/too little, and the effects this has on other areas of your body.
If your shoulder muscles are weak, for instance, it could be creating an over-firing in the neck muscles, leading to a headache. Weak shoulders can also cause overwork in the arms, leading to symptoms similar to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
So, it is important to examine the muscles interactions in order to find the source of your issues.

Do you just work with sports injuries?
Sports Therapists are great at treating sports injuries because they have a keen understanding of how the muscular system works. But this depth of knowledge can be applied to treating any muscular or joint problem, not just sports injuries.

Let us say you are a runner and your ankles are weak and constantly getting injured. We can assess and treat your ankle issues, but this weakness comes from somewhere.
So, here at The Reinge Clinic, because of our sports science background, we can assess your running gait, to look at what is happening as you are running, and adjust the gait to make sure that you are not constantly re-injuring the ankle.
Now, let us say that same client goes on to get knee osteoarthritis (which can stem from foot and ankle issues), as Sports Therapists we could also manage their osteoarthritis, but then adjust their rehabilitation exercises so that they can get back to running safely.

I have used the Reinge Clinic for several years and they have enabled me to continue Canoeing and Kayaking at a high level and enjoy my active lifestyle generally. Their approach is very thorough and both Ian and Gina are very knowledgeable. I strongly recommend that you contact them to help deal with or recover from any physical injury.

Gina and Ian are a fantastic team. They've both been involved in my rehab from injury and generally keeping me going. They've got a high level of knowledge and a no nonsense but caring approach. I recommend them to my clients and friends. You're in great hands.

We race sidecar Motocross, which is possibly one of the most demanding sports on the planet. After a large crash where we both sustained injuries we visited the Reinge Clinic. I was treated by Gina and my passenger by Ian. Both are fantastically knowledgable , they clearly explained what we had broken and how they were going to fix it. We have been able to continue racing through both the treatment sessions but the strengthening programmes they designed to ensure injuries do not reoccur.
