Physiotherapy treatments are aimed at anyone suffering pain and injury, specifically those with a complex medical or health problems.

Post operative rehabilitation, the older person, and those with chronic health problems such as arthritis would benefit from physiotherapy treatment.

What makes us different?

Ian is our Chartered Physiotherapist and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area.

In addition to his Physiotherapy degree, he also has a Sports Science degree,  and diplomas in Sports Therapy, Sports Massage and Personal Training, meaning he looks at your issue in a very different way.

When Ian assesses you, he is looking at your whole body, not just your injury or pain area. Specifically he is looking for the cause of that injury, whether it is local to the injury or elsewhere within the body. It is not unusual for him to treat your shoulder to solve hip pain, or to look at your foot for a knee issue.

He will then use all his knowledge to not only deal with the local pain or injury, but ensure it doesn't return by retraining your biomechanics elsewhere in your body, that lead to the problem in the first place.

Do we offer hands on Physiotherapy?

Absolutely! Massage techniques were always historically a part of Physiotherapy treatments, but has become less so in the last few years.

Here at the Reinge Clinic we use hands on techniques in every Physiotherapy treatment, whether muscle testing to check for weakness or massage to loosen overly tight muscles. Hands on work allows us to get a faster response to treatments.

When we use our hands to loosen a muscle we get a much faster response than if we rely solely on stretches to do that for us. We can loosen a muscle very quickly and then see how that effects your pain immediately.

This not only allows you to leave the session with less pain than you came in with, but it also allows us to understand better what is causing your pain in the first place.

This is why every appointment we do lasts the best part of an hour, even our follow up appointments. This allows us the time to reassess you, loosen you and change your exercises at every follow up.

Why do I need to do strength work?

Strength work is integral to Physiotherapy treatments. We can use hands on techniques to help reposition your body, assessments to check where pain is and even mobilise joints and nerves. But sadly we can't strengthen your body for you.

Due to Ian's in depth knowledge of strength training, he is able to target your strength work to ensure you get the result needed without pages of exercises to complete.

Sometimes one really well targeted exercise can create superior results to a whole page of strength work. We will target our exercises to get the results you need and tailor them to your circumatances and lifestyle. So if you travel for work, or hate the gym, this isn't a problem. Almost every exercise is modifiable.

For a long term soultion to pain and injury, strength work is always needed. Without strength, the body simply cannot function properly and over time will cause pain and injury.

I came to see Ian on recommendation of my husband after being in a lot of pain with my feet and also having a numb little toe and having had no luck with a number of other people. He diagnosed me with having a trapped nerve in my hip causing the numb toe, he worked on it for a just couple of minutes and it improved! He then gave me 'homework' exercises to do and after three visits I was back to normal. I still can't believe that it wasn't picked up on by anybody, Ian was the first person to look beyond my foot to find the problem. As for my painful feet which turned out to be Plantar Fasciitis, he worked wonders on those too.

I took my 10 yr old son to see Ian at the Reinge Clinic after he suffered with painful heels for many months. Even after the rest during lockdown he was still in extreme pain after any physical exercise. We visited Ian for a consultation where he examined Archie and gave us some exercises to try. When after a week there was no improvement, I contacted Ian who invited us back to the clinic as part of the initial consultation. Ian adjusted my son’s pelvis and within two days the pain had stopped. We couldn’t believe it, but after months of pain and discomfort, he remains pain free after essentially one treatment. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ian and the team at Reinge Clinic.

I can highly recommend Ian's unique approach to physiotherapy. He doesn't just treat the symptoms, he works like a detective to get to the root of the problem. He found that my back pain had started with a weakness in my foot and so has treated me from the ground up to straighten me out. After 2 sessions I am so much more comfortable and should stay that way if I do my exercises! Very comprehensive and thorough, thank you Ian.
